Van Marwijk: "No particular favorites"
Friday 4 December 2009
Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk said
on Friday he does not have any particular favorites
to be grouped with at tonight's draw for the group stages
of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
"I don't think that way as
you can not influence things," Van Marwijk said.
"After we know who will be
in our group we can say something sensible about it.
What's the point in talking about opposition you light
hope for. When you want to achieve something there you
must be able to beat any team.
The Netherlands are in jar number
1 for the draw and will be one of the eight group leaders.

"The intellectualisation
of football has
always foundered
on a simple problem-
-the players. Doing
all your most
rewarding thinking
with your feet seems
to dull the philo-
sophical impulse.
Unless, of course,
you are Dutch.
According to legend,
Europeans played
a moronic, muscular
version of the world's
game, until Holland
proclaimed its vision
of total football in the
1974 World Cup,
and enlightenment
dawned."
