Bondscoach Bert van Marwijk
is considering to make changes to the side for the last
game in Group E against Cameroon tonight. Holland have
already qualified for the last 16
"Perhaps I'll rest one or
two players who have been booked," the Holland
manager said.
Robin van Persie, Gregory van der
Wiel and Nigel de Jong got a yellow card, and another
card tonight would mean a suspension for the next game.
Van Marwijk said earlier in the
week that Van Persie is sure to start. Holland's manager
is thus thinking about leaving out Van der Wiel and/or
Nigel de Jong. That might mean Demy de Zeeuw and Khalid
Boulahrouz will get a chance tonight.
Van Marwijk will decide today about
those to and about whether Arjen Robben is fully fit
to play. "I might put Robben on the team sheet
against Cameroon," Van Marwijk said last night.
The coach added that he will take
the game against Cameroon very seriously, despite the
fact that Holland have already qualified.
"I find the game against Cameroon
is very important. At a tournament such as this you
can not allow yourself to lose focus. Besides we have
to improve - as a team and individually."
The squad did change focus yesterday
though, when they went on a trip to Robben Island, for
which Van Marwijk canceled a scheduled training session.
Robben Island, off the coast of
Capetown, is a prison famous for the years long custody
of Nelson Mandela and other antiapartheid fighters there.
Van Marwijk: "There was some
spare time and I thought it a good thing to go and see.
The players really appreciated it. You could notice
when you enter the prison - all were silent at once.
Mark van Bommel confirmed the words
of his coach: "When you go through that gate, you're
immediately struck by what has happened there."
Holland's presumable lineup: :
Stekelenburg; Boulahrouz, Heitinga, Mathijsen; Van Bronckhorst;
Van Bommel, De Zeeuw; Kuyt, Sneijder, Van der Vaart;
Van Persie.
