Elia leaves Robben extra time
Tuesday, 15 June 2010
The excellent way in which Eljero
Elia substituted Rafael van der Vaart against Denmark
gives Holland manager Bert van Marwijk an extra alternative
during the recovery process of Arjen Robben.
"This is a good chance to
let Robben work on his recovery without the pressure
of a quickly needed return and bring him back calmly,"
Van Marwijk said this morning.
Elia replaced a disappointing Van
der Vaart in the 67th minute of an unremarkable game
against the Danes and had an immediate impact.
However all Dutch media are screaming
for Elia to start on Saturday against Japan, those who
know Van Marwijk will know that with this coach that
is not self-evident.
Van Marwijk is a conservative coach,
who sticks to his original plans and doesn't change
his mind lightly.
Robben trained with the rest of
the squad on Tuesday (a quiet recovery training) and
is expected to be on the bench again when Holland take
on Japan in Durban.
