Holland first team to qualify
Sunday 20 June 2010
The victory of Denmark over Cameroon
means that Holland are now certain of a spot in the
second round, and thus the first team of this World
Cup to qualify.
With Holland having six points
in Group E they can only be overtaken by either Japan
or Denmark, who face each other on Thursday. That is
of course only when Holland don't get a result against
Cameroon.
It would seem though that Holland
would want to finish first in the group, to avoid having
to play Italy - most likely to win Group F - in the
round of 16.
The victory over Japan and later
the victory of Denmark over Cameroon and the subsequent
qualification was quietly celebrated by the Dutch team,
manager Bert van Marwijk said.
"The players were allowed
one drink, as was the case after the first game. After
that we have watched the game of Denmark against Cameroon
together. There was loud cheer when the Danes scored
their second goal."
