Afellay positive but complains about the pitch
Saturday, 19 June 2010
Netherlands - Japan 1-0
Ibrahim Afellay came on for Wesley
Sneijder in the 83rd minute, but in the few minutes
he played, he was twice put in front of the goal keeper.
But just as many times he was denied by the Japanese
goal keeper Kawashima.
"The ball got away from me
a bit too far on the first chance and so the keeper
had the chance to get onto my feet before I could strike.
I hit the second well just fine, but the goal keeper
did well. It's a shame," Afellay said.
Despite of his two missed chances
the PSV-midfielder was positive about his performance.
"Sure, but the whole team is happy. We have three
points, and that is what counts. And I am happy about
the way I came on. Those chances didn't go in, but it's
good to get in that position."
Although Afellay didn't make any
excuses he did complain about the condition of the pitch.
"Whenever you would accelerate the turf would come
loose."
