Van Bommel: "Patience was the magic word"
Saturday, 19 June 2010
Netherlands - Japan 1-0
Patience was the magic
word for Holland, midfielder Mark van Bommel thought.
"They didn't want to play. They only wanted to
stop us from playing. It was difficult against such
a disciplined opponent."
The Bayern player
knew they should have decided the game and score a second
goal. "We had two fine chances. But in the end
the most important thing is that we won the game."
He agreed that the
first half wasn't all that great: "Nigel de Jong
and I were unable to connect with the forwards. In the
second half that went a lot better and we found to our
game a bit more often. But we had agreed to be patient.
It worked."
