Stekelenburg: "This is the start we wanted"

Three points and no goals conceded:
in fact the start to the tournament couldn't have been
much better. The team of Bert van Marwijk never reached
it's normal level, but beat the Danes with seemingly
little effort.
"This is a great start,"
goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg told FCUpdate.nl. "To
win and not concede, that's the start we wanted. The
Danes had a few half chances in the first half, but
apart from that we gave away nothing."
The half chances, as Stekelenburg
calls them, were stopped in expert fashion by the Ajax
keeper. "Yeah, I had a couple of good saves, like
Kahlenberg's shot to the near post. The ball is a bit
of a problem though. It's hard to control the distance
when you kick it. A few of my goal kicks ended up in
the opponent's penalty area. I have never kicked that
far."
Mark van Bommel emphasizes that,
although they didn't play well, Holland were the better
side. "The most able team has won, I think. In
the opening minutes we had trouble coping with the altitude
and the condition of the pitch. But after the opening
goal there was a bit more space and we showed some good
moves. But okay, the most important thing is that we
won. The goal was to get the three points. The rest
is less important at the moment."
