Giovanni van Bronckhorst: "We want to make history"
Monday, 14 June 2010
Bert
van Marwijk yesterday said he had slept well, but that
he feels that normal tension of match day approaching.
"But I think that's good. When you're tense you're
more alert." The World Cup is new for Van Marwijk,
but he's won the UEFA Cup, he's worked in the Bundesliga
and he has seen the Champions League from close by -
Van Marwijk knows what tension comes with high profile
games.
The same goes for Giovanni van
Bronckhorst. The Feyenoord-player hopes that today's
opening of the tournament for his team will lead to
the final on 11 July - something Van Marwijk isn't so
sure of. "I don't think we're favorites,"
Van Marwijk said about his captains expectations when
the two appeared at the international daily press conference.
The game against Denmark will be
Van Bronckhorst's 100th cap and although the prediction
of one of the journalists present ("3-0")
was not something Van Bronckhorst wanted to confirm
he was hopeful: "We hope we can have a good start
to the tournament, but we have to be careful not to
underestimate Denmark. They have a strong team and they
know all about us, as we do about them."
"It is time that apart from
entertaining people we bring home some silverware. This
could be the time. We have come to make history."
