Three days before Holland's first
game of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa against Denmark
it looks at though Rafael van der Vaart will fill the
spot that is left open by the injured Arjen Robben.
After this mornings calm training
session there were some slight worries about Wesley
Sneijder, who hurt his ankle in a collision with André
Ooijer. But in the end it turned out to be nothing serious.
There will be a closed training
session on Saturday after which the team can check the
pitch of Soccer City on Sunday.
Van Marwijk finished today's training
with a game of ten each, in which he let his eyed starting
lineup play the reserves. The ten players were: Stekelenburg,
Van der Wiel, Heitinga, Mathijsen, Van Bronckhorst,
Van Bommel, De Jong, Kuyt, Sneijder, Van der Vaart and
Van Persie.
At the press conference afterwards
he didn't want to comment on a possible lineup against
the Danes, yet he also made no efforts to deny the suggestions
about Van der Vaart.
"Whoever had his eyes open
will know enough," Van Marwijk said.
So Van der Vaart will replace Robben
and there is no reason to expect Van Marwijk to have
any surprises up his sleeve.
Training started 20 late this morning
as the bus was held up in the streets of Johannesburg
on the way from the Sandton Hilton to the training ground
at Wits University.
The reason was thousands of South
African fans anticipating the opening game of the host
nation against Mexico (1-1).
