Van Marwijk hails midfield
Sunday 20 June 2010
Holland manager Bert van Marwijk
hailed his midfield today, a day after his team qualified
for the last 16: "We have a lot of creative players.
Our midfield is one of the best in the world. We have
many players who can make a difference."
Another positive fact about the
team is that they are yet to concede a goal, in spite
of all the criticism on the defense. "Defending
starts up front, and the players are understanding that
better and better. We have to operate as a team,"
Van Marwijk said.
The Dutch bondscoach also
said he will not adapt his team to other countries as
the tournament progresses. "It is my philosophy
to try and improve the team constantly. For me the last
group game against Cameroon is a serious one. We want
to win that game as well."
"One should never be satisfied.
The first thing I told the players when I took this
job two years ago is that everyone should keep both
feet on the ground. There's always the next game,"
said Van Marwijk, who was happy with the two victories
against Denmark and Japan, but didn't want to celebrate
the fact that they had qualified for too long.
"Back then I also said we
should be able to win ugly. We're doing that now and
that means we have made a significant step forward.
We've become more stable. But you don't win games just
like that. You have to be patient.
