Paraguay want to avoid Holland
21 June 2010
Paraguay want to do all they possibly
can to avoid the Dutch team in the round of 16 of 2010
World Cup in South Africa. The South-Americans have
four points from two games and are well on the way to
clinch first spot in Group F
"And we want to win the group
so we will not have to play the Netherlands in the next
round," said forward Nelson Valdez.
Holland have qualified for the
next round and seem pretty certain of the first spot.
A point against Cameroon in the last group game will
do to achieve that. Paraguay can ensure qualification
on Thursday in their game against New Zealand on Thursday.
"It's not just about qualification but also about
the first spot in the group," said striker Roque
Santa Cruz. "Most important thing is to go through,
but we also know that we might end up playing Holland.
So we really want to finish first."
All teams in Group F still have
a chance to qualify. Italy and New Zealand have two
points, Slovakia have one. On Thursday Italy play Slovakia
and Paraguay face New Zealand. The team finishing first
will play the number two of Group E, the number two
of Group F will play the number one of Group E - which
could very well be Holland.
