Vladimir Weiss: "Playing Holland is special"
Friday, 25 June 2010
After the draw for the World Cup
in December few would have reckoned with Slovakia as
the opponent in the pre-quarterfinals. But the reborn
Slovaks - who had only one goal attempt in their first
World Cup game against Paraguay (0-2) - sent home favorites
Italy and are now relishing their next opponents.
"To be playing the Netherlands,
that is something special," said their manager
Vladimir Weiss (45) after the 3-2 victory over Italy
. "This is the most beautiful day of my life, after
the birth of my son," he was quick to ad.
His son stayed on the bench against
Italy, for the first time during the tournament. The
lineup for the game had cause Weiss a lot of trouble,
he admitted: "It wasn't easy."
One of those who did play was Miroslav
Stoch. The FC Twente winger started for the first time,
and played a very decent game. But Man of the Match
for the Slovaks was Robert Vittek, who scored the first
two goals yesterday. The forward of Turkish club Ankaragücü
said that "new standards had been set for Slovak
football". Against Holland Slovakia will do everything
possible to repeat the miracle. "We have nothing
to lose, but Holland are among the favorites for the
tournament."
