Experimental lineup against Mexico
Tuesday 25 May 2010
Khalid Boulahrouz, Edson Braafheid,
Stijn Schaars and Ibrahim Afellay are all to start in
Wednesday's friendly against Mexico; It appears to be
their last chance to convince bondscoach Bert
van Marwijk whether they deserve a spot in the Dutch
World Cup squad. Especially the positions of Braafheid
and Schaars are very uncertain.
Van Marwijk already indicated a
few days ago that he would use the match against Mexico
to judge the readiness of some players. He plans to
name his definitive squad on Thursday. Four players
will have to be dropped from the current squad of 27.
Ryan Babel and Ron Vlaar will surely
not play as they are both recovering from hamstring
injuries. Champions League finalists Mark van Bommel,
Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder will join the squad
for training on Thursday.
