Van Marwijk knows who he will drop
26 May 2010
Holland
manager Bert van Marwijk was reasonably happy about
the performance of his side in the first half of the
friendly game against Mexico. "We started very
well and had seven or eight good chances. We should
have scored more than two from those. After the break
we didn't play so well, but that had a lot to do with
wet condition of the pitch. But it also seemed as if
some players were tired. That's possible as we trained
very hard this week."
Van Marwijks was happy with the
performance of Ibrahim Afellay, who, together with Van
Persie and Van der Vaart, was key to Holland's good
performance in the first half. Afellay has been
doing well all week," Van Marwijk said. "But
he was also one of the players who were having difficulties
in the second half."
Robin van Persie also got a compliment
from Van Marwijk: "He played very well. Towards
the end his hamstring was bothering him a bit, so I
took him off."
Van Marwijk said he knows which
players will be dropped from the squad. "But I
will tell these guys first. The press will be informed
tomorrow at 17h00.
For Ron Vlaar and Orlando Engelaar
it seems certain they will be among the four to leave
the squad tomorrow. Ryan Babel and Edson Braafheid will
most likely have to worry as well.
