Van Marwijk: "We have a long way
to go"
Saturday 11 October 2008
After Holland's second victory
in the qualification campaign
for the 2010 World Cup Bert van Marwijk saw no reason
to be euphonic.
"We have a long way to go,"
he said after Holland beat Iceland 2-0.
He was satisfied with the victory
and with the fact that the competition dropped points.
"We can call this a good start,
sure. But I will not look beyond the next game."
He called the victory a decent
one.
"We played good in stretches
of the game. We knew Iceland were going to defend heavily.
We were patient and waited for opportunities. They came.
So that part we did well."
After the early goal by Joris Mathijsen
Van Marwijk saw Holland play well.
"Sadly we failed to increase
our lead in that period. I would have liked to see us
score two or three goals more."
Van Marwijk was also very happy
about the debut of defender
Dirk Marcellis
, PSV's 20-year-old central defender.
"To us he has shown that at
this level he can also play as right back. I hardly
saw him make a mistake and he played as if he's been
with us for years. On the bench we were surprised to
even see him coach other players. I am very happy about
his performance."
