Huntelaar: "One down, one to go"
Saturday 11 October 2008
Holland beat Iceland without ever
being really challenged.
The 2-0 victory put Holland top
of the table in group 9 and led to reasonably satisfied
reactions among Dutch players.
Klaas -Jan Huntelaar: "It
wasn't an easy game as Iceland are physically strong.
We played fairly well, but the final pass too often
wasn't good. But ahead of these two games we said we
wanted to win both. One down, one to go."
Joris Mathijsen: "It was nice
to score. We played well in parts of the game and created
enough chances, but no, we didn't make it 5-0. We won,
gained three points and should now be looking forward
to Wednesday's game. That will be important."
Captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst
was primarily happy with the developments in the ranking:
"When you don't drop any points and the other teams
do you are doing well. I thought we played at a good
pace, but the passing was at times inaccurate. We should
have scored more but all in all we dominated the game."
Van Bronckhorst was also happy
about new man Dirk Marcellis. "He showed he was
worth the manager's faith. You could see during training
that he was able to cope."
For the youngster himself it took
some time to fit in: "I was a bit more tensed than
I usually am for matches with PSV, but I was taken up
very well. During training I felt that I was ready for
this level. It's great to play for your country."
