Katanec: "Oranje consists of world stars"

Wednesday 01 April 2009

Srecko Katanec, coach of the national football team of Macedonia, says Holland have a good chance to be the best in the world.

The Macedonian selector thinks Holland are candidates to win the World Cup 2010 in South Africa.

"The team consists of only world stars," Katanec said in praise of their upcoming opponents.

"Bert van Marwijk has found a good balance for his team. Oranje might do very well in South Africa. Holland can expose any weakness of an opponent and they always have some trumps on the bench."

But Katanec does not thing that his side are without chance against Holland, as he thought his team did well in the first encounter (1-2).

"I think we were their equals then. I have faith in these lads, we play well and we create chances. So why shouldn't something nice happen for us."

"The intellectualisation
of football has
always foundered
on a simple problem-
-the players. Doing
all your most
rewarding thinking
with your feet seems
to dull the philo-
sophical impulse.
Unless, of course,
you are Dutch.
According to legend,
Europeans played
a moronic, muscular
version of the world's
game, until Holland
proclaimed its vision
of total football in the
1974 World Cup,
and enlightenment
dawned."
