Sneijder wants to talk to Van Persie about
free kicks
Tuesday 30 September 2008
Wesley Sneijder wants clarity about
taking free kicks for the Dutch national football team.
The Real Madrid midfielder will
certainly talk to Robin van Persie about it, he said
in an interview with Dutch football magazine Voetbal
International.
Sneijder is referring to Holland's
quarter final against Russia, when Van Persie took a
free kick that Sneijder wanted to take.
"We never talked about it,
as we left Switzerland the next day and I haven't been
back with the squad since," Sneijder said.
"I don't mean to say that
I would have scored that free kick, but this wasn't
what we agreed upon. As soon as we meet again, me and
Robin will discuss the matter. We don't have to make
a big issue about it, but I just want to make it clear
that everyone should do as we agreed in advance."
Sneijder sustained a knee injury
during Madrid's pre-season and hasn't played since.
The midfielder has resumed training
at Madrid and could perhaps be called up for Holland's
World Cup qualification
games against Iceland and Norway.
