Wesley Sneijder: "At half time it seemed impossible"
Saturday 3 July 2010
Wesley Sneijder, named Man of the
Match for the third time this tournament, was over the
moon after Holland's 2-1 quarterfinal victory over Brazil
. "This is fantastic. When you knock out Brazil,
one of the biggest and best teams of the tournament,
you are allowed to really enjoy it."
"Finally,
finally, finally we have beat Brazil at the World Cup.
We have shown the world that we are capable of doing
that. I am so happy."
"It's amazing what we have
done. But we knew we were capable of it. And that is
why we managed. But Brazil is not the most important.
We're in the semifinals!"
Even after Holland's disastrous
first half Sneijder believed in a positive outcome.
"At half time it seemed impossible to come back.
But we said to each other: these could be our last 45
minutes at the World Cup. Let's shrug it all off and
just go for it. And that's what we did."
Sneijder's cross went in off the
back of the head of Felipe Melo for 1-1 and later he
scored the winner - with his head. "Against this
great defense we scored two goals. And I did it with
this bold head of mine. I don't think I have done that
before."
"This is so great, but now...uhm...
tomorrow we have to start preparing for the semifinal,"
said the man from the city of Utrecht. "We must
remain focussed, but we can enjoy this for a short while."
