Van Bommel: "We still have nothing"

Of course it was
great fun celebrating the 3-2 victory over Uruguay in
the semifinal of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa
with the fans, who had stayed in the stadium long after
the final whistle.
And course there
were great scenes of celebration in the dressing room
with the Dutch crown prince Alexander and his wife about
reaching the final of that World Cup - for the first
time in 32 years.
But today, a day
off for the team, all are thinking about Sunday's big
game in Soccer City. "And we must," says Mark
van Bommel. "Of course I am delighted, but we haven't
won a thing yet. We want to win that final. That has
been our goal from day 1. When we lose we will be swept
on one heap with 1974 and 1978. We want more than that."
Besides this World
Cup is Van Bommel's last chance to win a big prize with
the national team. "So I want to win this. The
believe that we can win the gold has been growing for
two years in this group, from the first day after the
European Championships in 2008. That holy conviction,
I have nowhere seen it as extreme as in this Dutch team.
We are feeling so enormous. This is really a team."
