Van Marwijk: "About 20 players are
sure to come to World Cup"
Tuesday 16 March 2010
It's another two months before
Holland boss Bert van Marwijk will have to hand in his
squad of 23 players that he will take to the World Cup
in South Africa, but the coach has few doubts about
which names will be on his team sheet.
About twenty players are certain
of a spot.
""About twenty players
are more a less sure to come along, but things can happen
in the mean time," Van Marwijk said on a local
radio station.
If Van Marwijk indeed has already
named 20 players, only three spots remain. One of these
is almost certainly the third goal keeper. Earlier the
bondscoach indicated that that will be either
Piet Velthuizen of FC Utrecht and experienced Sander
Boschker of Eredivisie leaders FC Twente.
Van Marwijk also empasized that
for him Spain and Brazil are the big favorites to win
the Championship, and that he sees England - like Holland
- as an outsider. Van Marwijk compared the situation
to Feyenoord in 2002, with which team van Marwijk won
the UEFA Cup that year after eliminating Glasgow Rangers,
Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund: "We didn't have
the best players, but we had the best team."
