Seedorf fancies move to England
Wednesday 26 November 2008
AC Milan veteran Clarence Seedorf
has again admitted he wants to play in the Barclays
Premier League as he prepares to face Portsmouth in
the UEFA Cup.
The Holland midfielder, who is
the only player to win the Champions League with three
different clubs, is expected to line up at Fratton Park
on Thursday, where he will get a taste for English football.
"I would love to play in the
Premier League,' said the 32-year-old."
"Which player wouldn't? It's
one of the best leagues in the world. I'm happy at AC
Milan but I never say never."
"The development of the Premier
League over the last five years has been incredible.
The football is exciting with much more quality. I love
to watch it on television."
The comments are likely to put
several teams on alert.
Arsenal are lacking experience
and depth in midfield, though Arsene Wenger may view
the Surinam-born midfielder as being too old.
Everton have consistently tried
to add a cultured player in the middle of the park after
being frustrated in attempts to sign the likes of Sporting
Lisbon's Joao Moutinho.
The veteran of 87 internationals
may also attract so-called entertainers such as West
Ham, Tottenham and Newcastle, while Manchester City
could easily afford a bid.
The former Ajax, Real Madrid, Inter
Milan and Sampdoria player admits that his knowledge
of UEFA Cup rivals Portsmouth comes only from watching
them on TV.
"I've seen them on the highlights
of the Premier League but we know it will be a hard
game," said Seedorf.
"They have some experienced
players such as Sol Campbell who is an excellent defender.
The crowd will be very special. In a small stadium they
will make a very good atmosphere and I'm looking forward
to it. We have to be very focused. In our last tie against
Braga we struggled to win the game."
