"The intellectualisation
of football has
always foundered
on a simple problem-
-the players. Doing
all your most
rewarding thinking
with your feet seems
to dull the philo-
sophical impulse.
Unless, of course,
you are Dutch.
According to legend,
Europeans played
a moronic, muscular
version of the world's
game, until Holland
proclaimed its vision
of total football in the
1974 World Cup,
and enlightenment
dawned."

Johan Cruyff's father-in-law dies at 70

Friday 01 October 2008

Cor Coster, father-in-law of Johan Cruyff has died at the age of 70.

Coster had been seriously ill for some time.

Coster, an Amsterdam business man, became known in the late sixties and early seventies as the agent of Johan Cruyff.

His daughter Danny married Johan Cruyff on 2 December 1968.

Coster was one of the first player agents in football and also handled the transfer of Johan Neeskens from Ajax to Barcelona in 1974.

It was also thanks to the efforts of Cor Coster that Dutch football players started making more money when playing for the national team.

Besides having a famous son-in-law Coster kept a low profile and rarely gave interviews.

The marriage of his daughter Danny and Johan Cruyff is said to have been a happy one for almost forty years.

Cruyff and his wife have three children: Chantal (37), Susila (36) and Jordi (34).
