Joris Mathijsen on his way to the Premier

Joris Mathijsen has attracted
interest of three English clubs after his performance
at Euro 2008.
Sunderland and Newcastle could
be set for a summer battle over the signature of the
Holland defender.
The 28-year-old featured for the
Dutch during Euro 2008 as a first-choice centre-back
and reports claim he could be on the move this summer
from his current club, German side Hamburg.
Mathijsen, who has won over 30
caps for his country, has had two seasons in the Bundesliga
after previous spells with Dutch sides Willem II and
AZ Alkmaar.
Sunderland-manager Roy Keane is
said to be keen on the defender but it's believed the
he faces competition for his signature from both Kevin
Keegan and new Blackburn boss Paul Ince.
