Boulahrouz back to the Bundesliga
Monday 21 July 2008
Khalid Boulahrouz is on his way
to Vfb. Stuttgart, where he will sign a new contract
after a medical test has been completed.
Chelsea, his current employer,
announced this on it's website
today.
Chelsea did not disclose a transfer
fee, but it is estimated to be around € 5 million.
It will be Boula's second
adventure in the Bundesliga.
After breaking through in his last
two years at unfashionable
RKC Waalwijk
under Martin Jol the Dutch defender moved to HSV Hamburg.
His successful two years there
between 2004 and 2006 got him into the national team
and earned him a
€ 13 million transfer to Chelsea.
Unable to break into the first
team during his one season in London he played for FC
Seville in Spain last season on loan, but due to an
injury he appeared in only a handful of matches there.
Last summer Boulahruz the turn-around
came when he drew attention in more than one way.
First he was axed by Van Basten
for the European Championships, then he was recalled
after Ryan Babel's injury and he impressed with some
excellent displays for Holland in the group stages.
Then - while preparing for Holland's
quarterfinals-match against Russia - the spotlights
were on him again as he and his wife were struck by
the death of their prematurely born child.
In his eight seasons as a professional
the 26-year-old played 135 games ion which he scored
5 times.
He was capped by Holland 26 times,
scoring no goals.
