Edwin van der Sar sets new record
Monday 09 February 2009
Edwin van der Sar has set a new
record on Sunday when his team Manchester United beat
Westham 0-1 and thus again did not concede a goal.
Van der Sar now hasnt allowed
a goal in 1,212 minutes, a British league record.
It was the 13th league match in
a row in which United did not concede.
Van der Sar of course refused to
take all the credit for his record.
"I had to make a couple of
saves but the defenders are incredible, how they defend,
how they clear the balls,"he told Sky Sports.
"Im proud for Edwin,"
Manchester manager Alex Ferguson said.
"At his age he has achieved
everything, but you can see the way he is motivated
by the challenge of the clean sheets and its an
extra edge."
Van der Sar's next challenge is
the European shut out record of Belgian Dany Verlinden
of Club Brugge who kept a clean sheet for 1390 minutes
between March and September 1990.
