Sneijder cools Prem reports
Tiuesday 24 June 2008
Wesley Sneijder has no intention
of leaving Real Madrid following reports linking him
with a move to Manchester United.
The 24-year-old Netherlands international has been
mentioned as a possible makeweight in the potential
record-breaking transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo to the
Bernabeu.
But Sneijder, who enjoyed a successful first season
in Spain after scoring nine times in 38 appearances,
has no interest in leaving Madrid.
The former Ajax attacking midfielder signed for the
Spanish giants last summer in a 27million euro deal.
"When I left Ajax, my lifelong club, I only wanted
to go to Real," he said.
"It's the best club in the
world. Now that I'm here the only thing I want to do
is win lots of titles and spend as long as possible
defending this shirt and badge." Sneijder's stock
rose after scoring two superb goals in the Netherlands'
group stage wins against Italy and France at Euro 2008,
before their quarter-final exit from the tournament
at the hands of Russia.
