Melchiot spoils Blackburn Christmas celebrations
Monday 15 December 2008
Blackburn Rovers are not doing
well so far this season, suffering their tenth defeat
on Saturday against mid-table Wigan Athletic (3-0).
However Wigan skipper Mario Melchiot
had a good bit of advice that will not sound to appealing
to Blackburn's players so close top Christmas.
Melchiot told the Rovers that
the only way back is to put social life and family on
the back-burner.
Wigan were in a more perilous position
after they won this fixture a year ago, with 12 points
to Blackburns current 13, but hauled themselves
to safety by devoting themselves to the crisis and temporarily
ignoring everything else.
Melchiot said: "I told Benni
McCarthy: 'I have been here and I know what its
like'. The only thing you can do is keep believing.
People thought we were down but we survived."
"Every team has these moments.
The only people you need at times like this are your
teammates, because nobody else can help you. You stick
together, those 20 faces in the group, and you get through
it."
"Its the hardest thing
to do because when you go home you might not be very
happy and end up shutting your family out. But when
it comes to the game, thats the only thing you
can care about."
"If you win, its OK
at home. But when work doesnt go well, you have
to shut your family out, concentrate on the football."
Merry Christmas....
