"The intellectualisation
of football has
always foundered
on a simple problem-
-the players. Doing
all your most
rewarding thinking
with your feet seems
to dull the philo-
sophical impulse.
Unless, of course,
you are Dutch.
According to legend,
Europeans played
a moronic, muscular
version of the world's
game, until Holland
proclaimed its vision
of total football in the
1974 World Cup,
and enlightenment
dawned."

Ling: "Injuries Robben because of fat diet"

Tuesday 18 November 2008

Former Ajax player Tscheu La Ling has offered Arjen Robben a helping hand.

Ling - now a merchant in food supplements - says he is sure that Robben's many injuries are caused by the wrong diet.

At the moment Robben is once again out with a muscle injury.

The Madrid forward has visited Ling last week in Slovakia for a diet analyses.

"Arjen gets his energy from fats," Ling says.

"But we are now adjusting his diet. Football players are like race cars: you have to put in the right fuel, otherwise it will break down. With Arjen it's mopping with the faucet on, because he's not eating well."

"Those doctors at Real are quacks, as there are so many in football," Ling states.

"But we can soon say good-bye to the Man of Glass. I will solve this. Of course he will be injured occasionally, as after all there there is a lot of scar tissue. But we shall soon see the Arjen Robben again that we all enjoyed so much."

Robben's current injury by the way is healing quicker than expected.

The winger got injured two weeks ago during the warm up for the Champions League game against Juventus and it was first feared that he would be out for at least six weeks.

Yet Robben returned to the Madrid training ground on Tuesday.
