"The intellectualisation
of football has
always foundered
on a simple problem-
-the players. Doing
all your most
rewarding thinking
with your feet seems
to dull the philo-

Unless, of course,
you are Dutch.
According to legend,
Europeans played
a moronic, muscular
version of the world's
game, until Holland
proclaimed its vision
of total football in the

Red card for Robben as Madrid go down again

Monday 08 December 2008

In a spectacular match Real Madrid went down 3-4 in Bernabeu against FC Seville.

Arjen Robben made his comeback match but saw a good game overshadowed by two yellow cards that directly cost his team.

With the Classico against Barcelona coming up next week tough times lie ahead for Madrid and Schuster's position is well under pressure.

In a dramatic game it was Madrid's defense who did the team most harm.

At Adriano Correia's opener keeper Iker Casillas looked bad and when N'Dri Romaric made it 1-2 the whole defense seemed poorly organized, with Robben marking the Ivorian at a corner.

The visitors made it 1-3 before the break (Kanouté) but then had to allow the Galactics an impressive comeback.

Robben was a main force in that comeback as he darted through the Seville defense time after time.

After Higuaín en Fernando Gago ha made it 3-3 Robben hit the post and then strongly contested the referees decision to not award him a penalty a little later.

The referee showed him his second yellow card and down to ten men Madrid did not have the strength to withstand Seville and five minutes from the end Renato scored the winner: 3-4.

Because of his unnecessary yellow card Robben will miss the game against Barcelona next week.

Wesley Sneijder and Rafael van der Vaart were also in the Madrid starting lineup with Van der Vaart being replaced by Drenthe in the second half.
