Real Madrid: "Players want Diarra, fans choose
Huntelaar"
Friday 02 January 2009
Lassana Diarra or Klaas-Jan Huntelaar?
That is the question Real Madrid
coach Juande Ramos will have to answer if the club do
not manage to get any clemency from UEFA.
Only one of the two new signings
may be listed on the Champions League squad.
The fans and the players have already
made their choice.
And it will be Huntelaar who will
have to watch from the stands as his team take on Liverpool
in the round of 32.
At least that is if the players
were to decide according to Spanish daily Marca.
Los Merengues prefer Diarra
as they want more defensive security and they want to
limit the amount of chances of their opponents.
The players state that they have
enough offensive strength with Raúl, Gonzalo
Higuaín, Arjen Robben, Javier Saviola and Royston
Drenthe.
The midfield could do with some
defensive reinforcement, as Fernando Gago is the only
fit holding midfielder at the moment.
"We have to keep a clean sheet
in the home game against Liverpool," was the players'
motivation in Marca.
Were it up to the fans of Madrid
then Real would name Huntelaar for their Champions League
squad.
A poll in AS revealed that 82%
of the 11.573 want the Dutchman to play.
